What is block paving? Block and brick pavers can be used to create effective and durable exterior hardstanding areas such as driveways, patios and paths around both residential and commercial properties. Individual concrete or clay blocks can be laid in many different patterns to make long-lasting and attractive hard surfaces. When properly maintained their strength and durability makes them ideal for withstanding the weight of vehicles regularly being parked on them or driving over them.
Blocks are laid on a bed of sharp sand with kiln dried sand filling the joint gaps between blocks. Jointing sand is essential for creating the interlock between blocks and maintaining a firm and stable surface. By locking the blocks in place the weight of vehicles is then spread evenly across the entire surface. Without the jointing sand this heavy weight is then concentrated onto individual blocks which will cause them to break up and work loose.
Jointing sand – Kiln dried sand is dried at very high temperatures creating a dry, moisture-free, powdery texture that flows easily into narrow paver joints therefore locking the blocks together for a strong and stable surface.

What are the benefits of sealing block paving? Applying a sealer to block paving it stabilises, or hardens the sand and makes the grains stick together. This helps prevent the sand being washed away by rain and inhibits weed growth. Other benefits include :
- provides a protective barrier against oil and BBQ grease
- protects against food and drink spillages
- prevents algae, lichen and moss
- prevents UV fading
Can we repair sunken blocks? Yes we can. We can lift sinking block or brick paving and remove the old sand and lay fresh, compact bedding sand. We then return the pavers creating a firm, flat and level surface. Any additional costs are extremely reasonable and excellent value for money compared to what a landscaper would charge for this service.
