We use commercial grade power washing equipment upto 4000psi which in simple terms is a very powerful machine. Combined with our considerable experience and know-how and use of the best professional cleaning products we are usually able to remove all dirt, staining, algae, moss and the dreaded black spots. These lichens are notoriously difficult to remove and this is because they actually take root and embed themselves into your paving.

Lichens are a combination of algae and fungi and the only way to get rid of them is to first kill them with a safe, biodegradable cleaning chemical. So we start the cleaning process by spraying your drive, path or patio with the appropriate product which quickly takes effect and the black spots disappear as we pressure wash the surface.

We can also clean away oil stains such as dirty engine oil, petrol and brake fluid.

Over time driveways often develop dips that leave puddles in the rain or loose and uneven blocks. We can carry out minor repairs and levelling work. We will take up any loose blocks and remove the existing sub base and lay it again with a fresh base for a nice level surface. It is quite commonplace for the sub base to become waterlogged and develop weak spots and dips but is not necessarily a sign of a serious problem and can be fixed for only a minimal charge.

Why is block paver sand important? Jointing sand is an integral feature of block paving and is essential to maintain its strength and structure. Sand generates interlock between the blocks and helps hold them together. It also helps spread the weight of vehicles across the entire surface and without sand in the joints blocks would work loose and your driveway could start to break up.

Jointing sand also helps inhibit weed growth by preventing weeds from growing in the gaps between blocks. Finally, the white coloured kiln dried sand we uses gives a very attractive finish to the cleaning project.

There are also certain types of polymeric sand for paving joints. These are a blend of fine sands and polymers (additives) that bind the sand together. Some brands claim to have weed killing properties added to them but their effectiveness is questionable. We are happy to discuss this subject in more detail and advise customers and equally happy to use polymeric sands if preferred by the customer.

One apparent advantage is that sealer is not required for stabilisation. Depending on the product some are self stabilising on contact with air, others just need a light spray with water. However, these sands are much more expensive and not necessarily more cost effective. Our £7 / square metre price does not include use of polymeric sand.

Does block paving need sealing?

Applying a paver sealer will help reduce ongoing maintenance, inhibit weed growth and maintain appearance. Block paving sealant has the crucial and most important benefit of stabilising joint sand and preventing sand loss.

Sand stabilisation means hardening the jointing sand and stopping it being washed away by rain and weathering. Hardened sand also helps inhibit weeds growing into the joints.
